2018 Program Achievements: Students’ Welfare Girls Leadership and Self Awareness Teaching and Learning Community Projects
Students’ Welfare
- Distributed 675 school uniforms to pupils of Ariang Primary
- Distributed 675 pairs of sturdy shoes
- Distributed writing materials to 675 students
- Distributed 50 school backpacks to our grade eight students
- Distributed 50 solar-powered lanterns to enable our eighth graders to study at night
- Distributed 6 soccer balls, 2 volleyballs, nets, and 3 hand pumps
Teaching and Learning
- Distributed 5 bikes to be used by 10+ teachers to commute to and from school. Also, the bikes are used for emergencies such as taking ill students to the nearest health care center
- Distributed professional wear to 25 teachers of Ariang Primary
- Successfully completed two rounds of teacher training workshops with 6 teachers in Nairobi, Kenya. Over 650 students are directly impacted.
- Equipped our library with 30 mathematical sets
- Equipped our library with 300 additional textbooks and teaching materials
Girls’ Corner
- Distributed 30 Menstrual Health Management kits to our grade eight girls along with a few women in the Ariang village.
- Established a safe space (Strong Girls Club) for women and girls where they meet to discuss their challenges and help each other out. We also conducted self-awareness and leadership workshops with this group
- Continued advocating for girl child education and support in all avenues
Community Projects
~ In partnership with Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief
- Community Needs Assessment: We conducted a needs assessment for women of Ariang who have potential to run small scale ventures but have limited business and financial literacies to drive the venture to profitable businesses.
- Water Management and Sanitation Training: We trained 11 members of the community (8 men and 3 women) about the importance of managing water sources, water safety from point to point, life cycles of water-borne diseases and ways of preventing them. We distributed 18 slabs for latrines to the people of Ariang.
- Health and Hygiene Training: Distributed over 300 bars of soap, 139 water buckets, 18 latrine slubs. The latrines will serve 54 household members.
– 9 community members (6 women and 3 men) given extra training to proceed as lead trainers. This training reached a total of 194 community members (61 males, 20 children, and 113 females).
– Ariang teachers and female students were trained on hygienic menstruation management.
- Water Hand Pump Mechanics Training: We trained 7 community members on how to repair water pumps and water sources.
