This webinar will be moderated by 12-year-old, Ellyana, who is Gabriel and Elizabeth Deng’s oldest daughter. She will be joined by her two cousins from Awut and Deng from South Sudan.
Ellyana will share her experiences of living and going to school in Kenya and her visits to Ariang, South Sudan over the last four years, and draw some similarities and differences in cultures and education.
What do they love about growing up in Ariang or going to school in Kenya?
What challenges are there for a kid in South Sudan?

Story of Akuach & Awut. Akuach was born and raised in Ariang South Sudan shortly after the civil war of North Sudan and South Sudan. She (and men and women of her generation) missed out on education and other opportunities.
Awut is her daughter. The relationship between then has been great. Both have learned a lot from each other. When Akuach enrolled started her tailoring course, Awut helped her with translation until Akuach had a hang of it.
Today, Akuach is a competent tailor. Hear this and more. Learn cultural practices, lifestyles, art forms, and songs of South Sudan from someone who knows them first-hand.
