Quality Teaching & Learning, and Strong School Administration & Oversight
ALL 61 students who sat for the 2019 South Sudan National Primary Exams passed their exams. YES! You read correctly! All the students obtained high scores, therefore, qualifying to transition to secondary schools.
Ariang school’s average score also went up by 34 points, an increase of 11.18% from 2018.
Compared to 2018, our girls excelled to beat their male counterparts with an average score of 338.86 (+14.29%). The boys obtained an average score of 337.87 (+7.98%). While this is not a big margin, it paints a picture that, given proper guidance and educational opportunities, girls have the potential to lead in education and economic developments.
Ariang School witnessed an increase in the average score in all subjects as shown in the chart. You will notice that Science, Christian Religion, and Math had the biggest improvements while the English Language went up by 1.00%.
Our Senior Education Officer and Ariang School members of staff have a few strategies put in place to address these issues and ensure that the students continue to grow and improve in all areas of learning.
We are proud of the performance and grateful to our teachers for their increased effort in delivering quality instructions, and to the school administration for observing a healthy school culture.
I know you are! We are in the final stages of selecting students from the 2019 Ariang graduates. Given the school’s strong performance this year, it will be a very tough decision. Students are being called for oral interviews this year and we’ll be completing home visits with eligible candidates. We look forward to sharing our selections soon!
Meanwhile, see our first cohort in the photo below. This is after returning back to high school for their second year.
Engineers have been working relentlessly to fix all the broken hand pumps so that area residents can continue having clean drinking water.
In particular, the borehole at Mading School, one of our network schools, was in dire need of repair! Boreholes have a direct positive impact on girls’ education. Without them, many girls would be forced to skip school to walk long distances in search of clean water.
We have also made good progress in ensuring there is good hygiene at Ariang School. The building of separate bathrooms for girls, boys, and teachers has begun and is progressing well.
We give credit to all our donors for supporting HFA’s mission and vision in South Sudan and to the strong leadership and oversight of our Founding Director, Gabriel Deng.
